I Love Diamond Frost Euphorbia

Name:  Euphorbia hypericifolia ‘Inneuphe’ aka Diamond Frost Euphorbia

Type of Plant: This annual is a total workhorse in the garden. I was reminded of this last week when I went to Marjorie Harvey’s yard and saw how pretty her window box was in late September. Diamond Frost grows a foot to a foot and a half tall, and makes a cloud of delicate, white flowers all summer long.

Why I Love This: Not only is this annual maintenance free all season, but it also plays well with others. Mix Diamond Frost with other annuals, or grow it under, in front of, or among perennials. It’s especially effective when planted with varieties with large foliage since this Euphorbia is so fine in leaf and flower.

A Word to the Wise:  This plant has two simple requirements: it doesn’t like spring cold and it doesn’t do well in wet or poorly drained soils. So plant it only after the temperatures warm up and give it sharp drainage or a location where it’s not going to get hit with a sprinkler every day, and this Euphorbia will be trouble-free all summer long.

This window box was simply planted with pink petunias, Diamond Frost and green ivy on an eastern facing wall and for the summer and through September it has been lovely.
