Do you have piles or pots filled with rocks that you’ve collected over the years? Perhaps you’ve walked on the beach or stream bed and particular stones called to you. “Pick me up! Take me home!” Or you’ve dug rocks from your garden as plants are put into the ground, tossing them into a pile or bucket. No matter how you’ve collected them, you have ended up with assorted sizes and colors of stones that are appealing.

Many people end up edging garden beds with such rocks but in such lines they often get lost, covered with the garden plants or overrun by weeds and grasses. These stones deserve better!  You might use the smaller ones in mosaics on birdbaths or embedded in cement stepping stones. Or you can stack them into rock pile sculptures. Stones can be arranged in the pattern of your choice on flat surfaces, be it a table top, deck or the ground. Have a bin of stones available at your next party or gathering and invite people to arrange them in a pleasing pattern. Create a spiral as a meditative activity when you need to calm down or de-stress. Rock arrangements don't have to be permanent!
