I Love Spreading SunPatiens Variegated Salmon
Name: Impatiens Spreading SunPatiens Variegated Salmon
Type of Plant: Annual SunPatiens are similar to New Guinea impatiens in that they will tolerate full sun or part shade. These impatiens are not effected by downy mildew, and this variety grows wider than it is tall.
Why I Love This: I love the fact that you get several colors with this plant. The flowers are a couple of shades of salmon as they age, and the foliage is variegated yellow and green. So this is a plant with lots of pow!
The spreading, variegated Sunpatiens grows 18 to 24” high and 24 to 36” wide…a good sized plant!
A Word to the Wise: Don’t plant any impatiens, including SunPatiens, in full shade. Make sure these plants get at least a couple of hours of direct sun for good flowering. Be sure to scatter some time-release or organic fertilizer (or a mix of the two) onto the soil surface in the area before you plant so that these annuals are stimulated to grow and flower all summer.

Between the yellow in the leaves and the several-tones of flower color, this SunPatiens adds lots of color to a garden. As these salmon flowers fade they become a pale peachy-pink. This variegated SunPatiens also comes with white flowers.

Fun With Frosty Fern

Holiday Grasses
Last year I was driving around Cape Cod and passed by this house where their ornamental grasses had been decorated for the holidays. Of course I love the way dried grasses look when left natural in the fall, but the artist in me saw the potential in those Miscanthus...

The Local Juice
I discovered a drink that tastes like my garden: healthy, fresh and just a tad earthy. It's made by a Cape Cod Company called The Local Juice. Although I realize that followers of this blog who are not on Cape might not have access to this juice, I must write about it...

Watering Houseplants
I think that the main reason people kill indoor plants is poor watering practices. Many people are prone to watering too little or too much, and these extremes kill plants. Here’s how to water a houseplant well: 1. Be sure that there is a deep saucer or a tray under...

How to Make a Pony or Horse Wreath
Pony and horse holiday door decorations have been all over Facebook and Pinterest lately, so it wasn't surprising to me that a customer came into the garden center with this image on her phone. "Can you make one of these for me?" she asked. "I tried calling this place...
