I passed by this window box today and practically cheered out loud. Whoever planted this did it up right! Too often we’re hesitant to fully celebrate spring at this time of year and plant our window boxes or containers fully…”I’ll just wait another month and fill them for summer,” we say to ourselves. This planting shows, however, what total joy a spring planting can provide. The combinations of colors, and the fact that it’s packed so fully expresses how delighted we are that the winter has passed.

Think of it this way: when you go out to a really nice dinner, with cocktails or wine, you might spend between $45.00 to $60.00 per person, right? And that meal only lasts for about two to three hours. For that same amount of money you could fill your containers with spring flowering plants and get five weeks or more of pleasure from the plants you’ve purchased. Go ahead, celebrate!

In this window box there are tulips, daffodils, ranunculus (the orange, rose-like flowers), grape hyacinths (blue), pansies (purple and gold) and Osteospermum (white daisy-like flowers). These are all cool-weather annuals so even when the temperatures dip below 45 degrees, these will be happy. And we are happy looking at them, right?
