Name:  Scaevola Whirlwind White Improved – a Proven Winners plant.

Type of Plant: This is an annual in most of the US, and you can believe the name…it really is improved. Scaevola is a wonderful plant for summer-long color that mixes well with other annuals in the garden or in containers. When planted in a pot or box it cascades over the sides and when put in the ground it forms a nice, full mound of colorful fan-flowers.

Why I Love This: Although the blue Scaevola has been a reliable, strong annual for years, the white was always a bit…wimpy. Thinner and less vigorous, most people found. But this improved version is a full, flower covered plant. It is a white version of the plant we’ve all come to know and love.

A Word to the Wise:  Plant all your annuals with a combination of time-release and organic fertilizers that are scattered over the ground before you put the plants in the ground. Some of that fertilizer will get mixed into the soil when you dig the holes for the plants, and some will stay on the surface…but in both cases this will feed the Scaevola and your other annuals all summer long. I use two parts of Plant-tone with one part Osmocote, and I never need to add additional fertilizer.

This large pot contains only two Scaevola plants! They quickly overwhelmed the smaller plants I put in the center and became the star of the show. The cascading plant is Dichondra 'Silver Falls.'
